Welcome to our December 2020 COVID-19 Update. This explains our current provision. It also details the state of play for upcoming bookings. We hope it provides the reassurance you need to book with confidence, but please don’t hesitate to contact us if you want to discuss any aspect of our course delivery.
The Current Situation
Both the national and international picture remain both complicated and challenging. We are always aware of the balance between providing life enhancing adventures and industry leading first aid courses whilst managing the safety of participants.
In recent months we have continually developed our operating procedures and we will keep adapting our provision as and when required. We continue to feel confident our courses are as safe as is possible. We will never claim they can be totally risk free. Our aim is to take every step possible to minimise risk and we don’t take this responsibility lightly. Participant safety is at the heart of everything we do.
What’s On Offer?
In the December shift from national to local lockdown arrangements the High Peak area has been categorised as Tier 3. This means there are significant restrictions on both travel and the activities that can be offered.
The government guidance allows participation in groups of up to 6 for organised outdoor sport. However, travel into and out of tier 3 areas is discouraged. Therefore, we are able to offer a limited selection of courses and would love to welcome you. We do ask, however, that only those local to the area book these sessions at the current time. This will avoid travel between different geographical areas.
With regard to our Tor Lea Training first aid courses, the guidance states that people can travel to and attend education or training events. We have considered carefully whether to continue delivering first aid courses during this period. We know that for participants these courses are essential for work. With this in mind, we are continuing to run them with reduced numbers and with significant risk management measures in place. Our practices adhere closely to any relevant advice from our professional organisations and awarding bodies.
We are still very hopeful that all of our 2021 overseas expeditions and adventures will be able to run and we are taking bookings for all next year’s trips. However, we know this remains a time of uncertainty. With this in mind we have implemented a COVID-19 guarantee for all new bookings (please see below).
Our COVID-19 Guarantee
We know as well as you that one of the biggest difficulties we all currently face is not knowing when things will change. Either you or us may need to change things at short notice. We want you to have the confidence to book a course with us without the risk of losing your payment.
Our guarantee is simple. If you are unable to proceed with your booking due to government restrictions related to Covid-19 or changes in your personal circumstances (such as travel bans, regional or national lockdowns or enforced self-isolation), we will offer you a refund or change of course date (whichever you prefer). We are applying this guarantee to all future bookings until the COVID-19 crisis is resolved.
How Are We Making Things As Safe As Possible?
All of our activities adhere to the government COVID Secure criteria regarding health, social distancing and hygiene.
We are also accredited through the Visit Britain ‘We’re Good To Go’ industry standard. This requires businesses to complete appropriate risk assessments and to undertake a self assessment process.
Our updated systems ensure good hygiene practices are in place during courses and that equipment is managed between courses to eliminate virus transmission risk. For our first aid courses we have changed many aspects of our delivery and yet feel confident we can still supply the top quality training experience we are known for.
All participants are also required to complete a COVID-19 Medical Declaration before attending a course.
We Are Staying Flexible
As detailed in this December 2020 COVID-19 Update, we continue to keep a close watch on government guideline changes ensures we are ready to strengthen or relax measures at short notice. We are also adapting our practices according to any changes in scientific advice.
We Want You To Feel Confident
If you want access to any of our risk assessments please don’t hesitate to ask. These clarify the specific steps we are taking to minimise risk and we are more than happy to let you read them if you wish.
Adventures Are Still Out There To Be Enjoyed!
