Mountain Activity Courses & Training

Although at the time of writing this we are still midway through another national lockdown, the recent government announcement has offered a road map for the upcoming lockdown easing. We do understand these dates may change if the government deems it necessary, but as all our courses are covered by our COVID-19 Guarantee, your booking will always be risk free.

The guidance below applies to our activities in England (primarily the Peak District National Park and the Lake District). We are still awaiting clarification for Wales and Scotland.

The first significant date is March 29th 2021. From this date outdoor gatherings of either 6 people or 2 households is allowed. At this point, the stay at home order will also end.

This means that we can start to offer outdoor activities again. Woohoo! We will still be implementing our COVID safe measures (see details below) and ensuring participants meet the government guidelines, but we are absolutely delighted to be able to welcome people onto our courses again. At this point we will restrict our activities to the Peak District National Park. Please do note that most accommodations will still be closed at this point.

The second significant date is no earlier than April 12th 2021. On this date self-contained accommodation such as holiday lets can reopen (where indoor facilities are not shared with other households). This means we can continue to welcome groups of either 6 or 2 households. In addition, access to more accommodation options should allow much more freedom to visit us. At this point we will be offering activities in the Peak District National Park and the Lake District. Depending on the guidance issued in Wales and Scotland, we may also be able to offer courses in Snowdonia and the Scottish Highlands. We will add additional guidance on this as soon as possible.

The third significant date is no earlier than May 17th 2021. On this date it is hoped most social contact rules will be removed for outdoor settings. In addition, groups of up to 30 people will be allowed outdoors. This opens up many more opportunities for larger groups to join us. We welcome corporate, social and stag/hen groups bookings for after this date. At this point we will be offering activities in the Peak District National Park and the Lake District. Depending on the guidance issued in Wales and Scotland, we may also be able to offer courses in Snowdonia and the Scottish Highlands. We will add additional guidance on this as soon as possible.

Lastly, maybe, if all goes well, all legal limits on social contact will be removed after 21st June 2021.

Tor Lea Training First Aid Courses

All of our ITC first aid courses continue to run with extensive COVID modifications. We are following all guidelines issued by our awarding organisation (ITC) and the First Aid Quality Partnership (FAQP), which includes the HSE, Awarding Organisations (including ITC), Voluntary Aid Sector providers and others.

The key parts of the recent statement issued by the FAQP are detailed below:

‘First Aid training providers can carry on delivering first aid training during lockdown to service demand from employers in a COVID secure way, as Centres have been doing so for a number of months.

Further to this, the HSE will be consulting with the devolved administrations to clarify the position of first aid training delivery as part of their individual lockdowns.  The HSE is of the view that training can continue until a response is received which states otherwise.  Therefore, Centres can continue to deliver, until we recieve information to the contrary.

ITC understands that there have been no reported instances of COVID19 transmissions reported originating from first aid training courses up to this point in time and this is certainly the case for ITC Centres.  Learners can therefore be reassured that first aid training is safe and can be completed despite there being an ongoing pandemic.’

Details on all our first aid courses is here.

All first aid bookings are fully covered by our COVID guarantee which is detailed below.

Double Black Bike Repairs

Double Black are fully open as usual. The government guidance has allowed bike repair businesses to remain open and we know how important bikes are to people at the moment.  We are still offering our socially distanced collection and delivery service in the local area. You are also welcome to visit our workshop by appointment.  We are also open for any repairs under the government’s Fix Your Bike Voucher Scheme. Details on all Double’s Blacks services are detailed here.

All bike repairs, servicing and repair bookings are fully covered by our COVID guarantee which is detailed below.

Our COVID-19 Guarantee

We want you to have the confidence to book a course with us without the risk of losing your payment. Our guarantee is simple.  If you are unable to proceed with your booking we will offer you a refund or change of course date as prefered.

This is whether due to government restrictions related to Covid-19 or a change in your personal circumstances. This could include changes to government guidance or enforced self-isolation or illness. We are applying this guarantee to all future bookings until the COVID-19 crisis is resolved.

How Are We Making Things As Safe As Possible?

All of our activities adhere to the government COVID Secure criteria regarding health, social distancing and hygiene.

We are also accredited through the Visit Britain ‘We’re Good To Go’ industry standard.  This requires businesses to complete appropriate risk assessments and to undertake a self assessment process.

Our updated systems ensure good hygiene practices are in place during courses. Equipment is also managed between courses to eliminate virus transmission risk.  For our first aid courses we have changed many aspects of our delivery. Even so, we feel confident we can still supply the top quality training experience we are known for.

All participants are also required to complete a COVID-19 Medical Declaration before attending a course.

We Are Staying Flexible

We will continue to keep a close watch on government guideline changes to ensure we are ready to strengthen or relax measures at short notice.  Our practices are also ready to adapt if there are any changes to scientific advice.

We Want You To Feel Confident

If you want access to any of our risk assessments please don’t hesitate to ask.  These clarify the specific steps we are taking to minimise risk and we are more than happy to let you read them if you wish.

Blue skies and great adventures await us all.
