The ability to navigate accurately is a vital skill for anyone venturing into the mountains. However, it is often neglected as many people think the skills are difficult to master. All it actually takes is a thorough explanation of each key skill then plenty of time to practice – and once you can navigate confidently a whole world of adventure opens up to you.
At Peak Mountaineering we offer courses to suit every experience level. Each course instructor will guide you progressively and patiently at your own pace giving you plenty of time to consolidate each skill. But it’s not all work – we always combine our navigation courses with a great walk and have a lot of fun too.
In addition, we are approved providers for The National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) and, because we have incorporated the bronze and silver syllabuses into our course programs, we give participants the chance to be assessed for the relevant awards if they wish. The NNAS was launched in 1994 at the Royal Institute of Navigation and since then over 10,000 awards have been gained. For more information on this innovative scheme please check out the NNAS website.
